Start with how the piece will be used
Think about water, soap and daily wear before colour. A freestanding bathtub sits in water for long periods. A vessel basin gets splashed and cleaned several times a day. A vanity top is touched, wiped and sometimes hit with a bottle or a hairdryer. The harder and less porous the stone, the easier it is to live with.
Marble, onyx, quartzite and granite compared
- Marble is prized for its veining and is available in a wide range of colours, from white and black to deep greens. It is softer than granite and quartzite, so acidic products such as lemon, vinegar and some cleaners can dull the polish over time. Sealing and gentle cleaning keep it looking good.
- Quartzite is a hard natural stone that often has the look of marble with greater resistance to scratches and etching. It suits bathtubs and basins that see heavy use. Some quartzites are translucent enough to be lit from behind.
- Onyx is translucent and glows when lit from behind, which makes it a striking choice for a feature tub or a basin. It is softer and more delicate than the other stones here, so it is best in a bathroom where it will be treated with care.
- Granite is very hard and resists heat and scratches. It is a good choice for a vanity top or a vessel basin that must stand up to daily use, and it is available in deep blacks and speckled finishes.
Polished or honed?
A polished finish is glossy and shows the colour and veining of the stone at its richest. A honed finish is matte and softer to the eye, and it hides water marks and fine scratches better. For a floor, a steps area or the inside of a tub, ask us about a finish that is less slippery when wet.

Sealing, cleaning and care
Natural stone has tiny pores, so we recommend sealing after installation and again as needed. Wipe spills quickly, use a mild pH-neutral cleaner and a soft cloth, and avoid acidic or abrasive products. Used this way, a stone bathroom piece stays beautiful for a very long time.
Weight, plumbing and installation
A solid stone bathtub is heavy, often several hundred kilograms, so check the floor loading with your engineer or builder before you order. Share your plumbing layout early. We can make a piece to your drain position, tap holes and wall or floor fixings, and we confirm every dimension with you before production starts.
Make it to your design
Every bathroom piece we make is carved to order in Udaipur. You can start from a piece in our collection or send your own drawings, and tell us the stone, size and finish you want. See the full range on our bathroom page, or request a quote with your plan.
